1. WELCOME, WORSHIP & PRAYER (4 MINUTES)

Welcome

Greet the children warmly.

Teacher says:

"Good morning, everyone! I'm so happy you're here today!

Before we begin, I want you to think about something. Has anyone ever given you a gift, helped you with something, or done something kind for you?"

Allow a few children to answer.

"What did you say when that happened?"

Let the children respond: Thank you!

"That's right! We say thank you when someone does something kind for us. But did you know that we have reasons to thank God every single day?

Today, we're going to learn how to remember God's goodness, even on ordinary days when nothing exciting seems to happen."

Worship Songs

  • “Thank You, Lord” — Children's Sunday School Version

  • “My God Is So Great”

Opening Prayer

“Dear God, thank You for bringing us together today. Help us listen to Your Word and remember all the good things You do. Teach us to have thankful hearts. In Jesus' name, amen.”

2. STARTER — DON'T FORGET! (3 MINUTES)

Preparation: Gather three familiar objects, such as a pencil, a small toy, and a cup.

Show the objects to the children for a few seconds. Cover them or place them out of sight.

Ask: “Can you remember all three things I showed you?”

Let the children name the objects. Repeat with a different order if time allows.

Say: “Sometimes it's easy to forget things—even important things! David wanted to make sure he didn't forget something very important: all the good things God had done. Let's hear what he said.”

3. BIBLE STORY — DAVID REMEMBERS GOD'S BLESSINGS (7 MINUTES)

Bible Passage: Psalm 103

Children, do you remember David? The young shepherd boy who faced the giant Goliath?

David had quite a life! God helped him defeat Goliath, but later, when King Saul wanted to hurt him, David had to run away. Can you imagine having to hide because someone wanted to hurt you?

David eventually became king. But was David perfect? No! He made serious mistakes and sinned against God. When the prophet Nathan confronted him, David admitted his sin. He needed God's forgiveness.

David knew what it was like to need God's help. He knew what it was like to need mercy, too.

Now, listen to something wonderful.

In Psalm 103, David wrote a song of praise. We don't know exactly when he wrote it, but do you know who David begins by talking to?

It's as though David is saying, “David, praise the Lord! Don't forget all the good things God has done!”

What did David want to remember? Let's listen!

David remembers that God forgives sins. David himself had needed forgiveness. He knew how important God's mercy was. “David, remember! God forgives!”

David also praises God for healing. God is the One we can turn to when we are sick or hurting. “David, remember! God heals!”

And David doesn't stop there! He remembers God's love and compassion. Compassion means caring deeply about someone who needs help. David says God cares for His children like a loving father cares for his children. “David, don't forget! God loves you and cares for you!”

Then David talks about flowers and grass. Have you ever seen a flower that was beautiful one day but later dried up? Flowers don't last forever. But David says God's faithful love is different.

It lasts forever! “David, remember! God's love never ends!”

Now, here's something I want you to notice. David began his psalm by telling his soul to praise the Lord. And guess how he ends it?

He tells his soul to praise the Lord again!

David didn't want to forget God's goodness.

“David, don't forget God's blessings. Praise the Lord!”

4. HEART CONNECTION — I CAN REMEMBER TOO! (4 MINUTES)

David reminded himself not to forget God's blessings.

But this lesson isn't only about David. We can learn to do the same thing!

Teacher:

“Children, have you ever had a day when you were so busy thinking about something you wanted that you forgot about the good things you already had?”

Allow responses.

“Sometimes we forget to notice God's goodness. But just like David, we can stop and remind ourselves.”

Place your hand over your heart and invite the children to do the same.

“Now we're going to try something. Instead of saying David's name, I want you to say your own name!”

Demonstrate using one child's name, then invite everyone to participate together.

  • “[My name], remember that God loves you!”

  • “[My name], remember that you can ask God for forgiveness!”

  • “[My name], remember that God cares for you!”

  • “[My name], don't forget God's blessings!”

Continue:

“When someone helps you, you can thank God for people who care for you. When you have food to eat, you can thank Him for providing it. When you make a wrong choice, you can come to God and ask for forgiveness.

And when you're having a difficult day, you don't have to pretend everything is okay. You can tell God how you feel and ask for His help.

Having a thankful heart means remembering God's goodness every day, not only when everything goes our way.”

Ask: “What is one thing you want to thank God for today?”

Allow a few children to share.

Teacher: “What will you remember?”
Children: “GOD IS GOOD!”

Teacher: “What will you never forget?”
Children: “HIS BLESSINGS!”

Everyone: “I WILL REMEMBER GOD'S GOODNESS AND THANK HIM EVERY DAY!”

God forgives, heals, loves, or shows compassion.

  4. Does God's faithful love come to an end?

Preparation: Place five blessing cards face down. Use the same five headings from the craft.

How to Play

  1. Invite a child to choose and turn over one card.

  3. Turn the card face down again.

  4. Ask the children to remember which blessing was on that card.

  5. Continue until all five blessings have been revealed and recalled.

Final Round: Point to each face-down card and see whether the children can remember all five together.

Teacher: “Why are we trying to remember these blessings?”
Children: “So we don't forget God's goodness!”

For younger children, leave the cards face up during the final round.
